The Editor,
I read a report of cardiac arrest in a case of Williams syndrome (WS) with great interest. [1] Gupta et al. conclude that "a thorough explanation of the risk-benefit ratio should be considered whenever diagnostic tests are considered, in patients with WS, along with a thorough discussion with parents regarding the potential risks involved." [1] Treatment and prevention of the problematic condition should be the focus. Most reports on cardiac arrest due to anesthesia practice in WS are the cases undergoing elective medical procedures such as elective surgeries. [2],[3] There are several attempts to set a new anesthesiology guideline that is effective for WS patients. Most present attempts focus on finding the best anesthesiology technique for WS patients. However, based on preventive concept, comparison between risk and benefit of each elective procedure before actual performing is needed. A new guideline should indicate exacts indication for performing elective medical procedures for KS patients. A clear necessity for medical procedure in KS case should be fulfilled before decision making for anesthesia practice. Rejection for anesthesia request in unnecessary medical procedure might be a way to decrease the problem of cardiac arrest due to anesthesia practice in WS.
